     Harry Duncan McGowan, 1st Baron McGowan was born on 3 June 1874.1 He was the son of Henry McGowan and Agnes Wilson.1 He married Jean Boyle Young, daughter of William Young, on 17 December 1903.1 He died on 13 July 1961 at age 87.1
     He was appointed Knight Commander, Order of the British Empire (K.B.E.) in 1918.1 He was chairman of ICI Ltd between 1930 and 1950.1 He was created 1st Baron McGowan, of Ardeer, co. Ayr [U.K.] on 24 February 1937.2 He was president of the British Standards Institute in 1947.1 He was freeman of Glasgow in 1951.1 He was president of International Nickel Company of Canada.1

     Jean Boyle Young was the daughter of William Young.1 She married Harry Duncan McGowan, 1st Baron McGowan, son of Henry McGowan and Agnes Wilson, on 17 December 1903.1 She died on 8 April 1952.1
     Her married name became McGowan. After her marriage, Jean Boyle Young was styled as Baroness McGowan on 24 February 1937.

     Harry Wilson McGowan, 2nd Baron McGowan was born on 18 May 1906.1 He was the son of Harry Duncan McGowan, 1st Baron McGowan and Jean Boyle Young.1 He married Bessie Carmen Cory, daughter of Sir James Herbert Cory, 1st Bt. and Elizabeth Cansh Walker, on 22 April 1937.2 He died on 5 July 1986 at age 80.1
     He was educated at Uppingham School, Uppingham, Rutland, England.1 He graduated from Clare College, Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, England, with a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.)1 He fought in the Second World War.1 He gained the rank of Major in the Middlesex Yeomanry.1 He succeeded as the 2nd Baron McGowan, of Ardeer, co. Ayr [U.K., 1937] on 13 July 1961.1

     Bessie Carmen Cory was born in 1914.2 She was the daughter of Sir James Herbert Cory, 1st Bt. and Elizabeth Cansh Walker.2 She married Harry Wilson McGowan, 2nd Baron McGowan, son of Harry Duncan McGowan, 1st Baron McGowan and Jean Boyle Young, on 22 April 1937.2 She died on 6 September 1996.2,3
     Bessie Carmen Cory usually went by her middle name of Carmen.2 Her married name became McGowan. After her marriage, Bessie Carmen Cory was styled as Baroness McGowan on 13 July 1961.

     Harry Duncan McGowan, 3rd Baron McGowan was born on 20 July 1938.1 He was the son of Harry Wilson McGowan, 2nd Baron McGowan and Bessie Carmen Cory.1 He married Lady Gillian Angela Pepys, daughter of John Digby Thomas Pepys, 7th Earl of Cottenham and Lady Angela Isabel Nellie Larnach-Nevill, on 16 May 1962.2 He died on 6 May 2003 at age 64.3
     He was educated at Eton College, Windsor, Berkshire, England.1 He was with Panmure Gordon between 1968 and 1995.1 He succeeded as the 3rd Baron McGowan, of Ardeer, co. Ayr [U.K., 1937] on 5 July 1986.1 He was chairman of Panmure Gordon between 1995 and 2003.1
