     Emma Smith is the daughter of Duncan Hattersley Smith.1 She married Harry John Charles McGowan, 4th Baron McGowan, son of Harry Duncan McGowan, 3rd Baron McGowan and Lady Gillian Angela Pepys, on 13 October 2001.1

     Sir William Goodenough Hayter was born on 1 August 1906.1 He was the son of Sir William Goodenough Hayter and Alethea Slessor.1 He married Iris Marie Hoare, daughter of Lt.-Col. Charles Hervey Grey and Marie Elizabeth Leopold.2 He died on 28 March 1995 at age 88.1
     He was appointed Companion, Order of St. Michael and St. George (C.M.G.) in 1948.2 He held the office of HM Minister to Paris between 1949 and 1953.2 He was appointed Knight Commander, Order of St. Michael and St. George (K.C.M.G.) in 1953.2 He held the office of Ambassador to the U.S.S.R. between 1953 and 1957.1 He was Warden of New College, Oxford between 1958 and 1976.1 He wrote the book The Diplomacy of the Great Powers, published 1961.2 He wrote the book The Kremlin and the Embassy, published 1966.2 He wrote the book Russia and the World, published 1970.2
