     Anne Hay-Mackenzie, Countess of Cromartie was born on 21 April 1829.1 She was the daughter of John Hay-Mackenzie and Anne Gibson-Craig.1 She married George Granville William Sutherland-Leveson-Gower, 3rd Duke of Sutherland, son of George Granville Sutherland-Leveson-Gower, 2nd Duke of Sutherland and Lady Harriet Elizabeth Georgiana Howard, on 27 June 1849 at Cliefden House, Taplow, Buckinghamshire, England.1,2 She died on 25 November 1888 at age 59 at Stafford House, St. James's, London, England.3,4 She was buried at Babbacombe Cemetery, Babbacombe, Devon, England.3
     As a result of her marriage, Anne Hay-Mackenzie, Countess of Cromartie was styled as Duchess of Sutherland. From 27 June 1849, her married name became Sutherland-Leveson-Gower.1,2 She was created 1st Viscountess Tarbat, of Tarbat, co. Cromartie [U.K.] on 21 October 1861, with special remainder to her 2nd son Francis and his heirs.1 She was created 1st Baroness Castlehaven, of Castlehaven, co. Cromartie [U.K.] on 21 October 1861, with special remainder to her 2nd son Francis and his heirs.1 She was created 1st Countess of Cromartie [U.K.] on 21 October 1861, with special remainder to her 2nd son Francis and his heirs.1 She was created 1st Baroness Macleod of Castle Leod, co. Cromartie [U.K.] on 21 October 1861, with special remainder to her 2nd son Francis and his heirs.1 She held the office of Mistress of the Robes between 1870 and 1874.3 She was invested as a Lady, Royal Order of Victoria and Albert (V.A.) 3rd Class.3

She married, firstly, Cromartie Sutherland-Leveson-Gower, 4th Duke of Sutherland, son of George Granville William Sutherland-Leveson-Gower, 3rd Duke of Sutherland and Anne Hay-Mackenzie, Countess of Cromartie, on 20 October 1884. She married, secondly, Brig.-Gen. Percy Desmond FitzGerald on 17 October 1914. She and Brig.-Gen. Percy Desmond FitzGerald were divorced in 1919. She married, thirdly, Lt.-Col. George Ernest Hawes on 27 October 1919. She and Lt.-Col. George Ernest Hawes were divorced in 1925. She died on 20 August 1955 at age 87.
     From 20 October 1884, her married name became Leveson-Gower. From 17 October 1914, her married name became FitzGerald. From 27 October 1919, her married name became Hawes.

     Elizabeth Millicent Leveson-Gower, 24th Countess of Sutherland gained the title of 24th Countess of Sutherland. She gained the title of Baroness of Strathnaver. Her married name became Jansen.
