     Sir Rainald Gilfrid Lewthwaite, 4th Bt. was born on 21 July 1913.1 He was the son of Sir William Lewthwaite, 2nd Bt. and Beryl Mary Stopford Hickman.2 He married Margaret Elizabeth Edmonds, daughter of Harry Edmonds, on 3 January 1936.1 He died on 15 April 2003 at age 89.1
     He was educated at Rugby School, Rugby, Warwickshire, England.1 He graduated from Trinity College, Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, England, in 1934 with a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.)1 He was awarded the Military Cross (M.C.) in 1943.1 He gained the rank of Brigadier in the Scots Guards.1 He fought in the Second World War, he was mentioned in despatches twice and was wounded.1 He gained the rank of commander in 1945 in the 1st Battalion, Scots Guards.1 He was awarded the Croix de Guerre with palm.1 He was Joint Services Mission to Washington in 1950.1 He was Acting Secretary (Mil) Cabinet Office between 1953 and 1965.1 He was with SHAPE Paris between 1955 and 1958.1 He was GSO(1) of the DCIGS Co-Ord War Office in 1958.1 He gained the rank of Colonel in 1960 in the NATO HQ Paris.1 He was Defence and Military Attaché Paris between 1964 and 1968.1 He was Director of Protocol Hong Kong between 1969 and 1976.1 He was appointed Officer, Order of the British Empire (O.B.E.) in 1974.1 He was appointed Commander, Royal Victorian Order (C.V.O.) in 1975.1 He succeeded as the 4th Baronet Lewthwaite, of Broadgate, Parish of Thwaites, co. Cumberland [U.K., 1927] on 25 December 1993.1

     Margaret Elizabeth Edmonds was the daughter of Harry Edmonds.2 She married Sir Rainald Gilfrid Lewthwaite, 4th Bt., son of Sir William Lewthwaite, 2nd Bt. and Beryl Mary Stopford Hickman, on 3 January 1936.1 She died in 1990.1
     From 3 January 1936, her married name became Lewthwaite. She was appointed Member, Order of the British Empire (M.B.E.) in 1941.1
