     James Makgill was the son of David Makgill and Janet Craig.2 A contract for the marriage of James Makgill and Jean Anstruther was signed on 20 January 1720.1 He died on 26 September 1747, without issue.1
     James Makgill succeeded to the title of 4th Lord Makgill of Cousland [S., 1651] in September 1717, de jure.1 He succeeded to the title of 4th Viscount of Oxfuird [S., 1651] in September 1717, de jure.1 He succeeded to the title of 4th Baronet Makgill [N.S., 1627] in September 1717, de jure.1
