     Colonel John Anstruther was born on 13 May 1736.1 He was the son of Sir Philip Anstruther of Balcaskie, 2nd Bt. and Catherine Hay.1 He married Grizel Maria Thomson of Charleton, daughter of John Thomson of Charleton and Margaret Paterson, in December 1774.1 He died on 10 February 1815 at age 78.2
     
     He also had two daughters and three younger sons, who all died without issue.2

     Grizel Maria Thomson of Charleton was the daughter of John Thomson of Charleton and Margaret Paterson.2,3 She married Colonel John Anstruther, son of Sir Philip Anstruther of Balcaskie, 2nd Bt. and Catherine Hay, in December 1774.2 She died on 5 July 1795.1
     Grizel Maria Thomson of Charleton succeeded to the title of 16th Lady St. Clair [S., 1449], but for the attainder.1 From December 1774, her married name became Anstruther.2
