     Sir James Balfour, 1st Bt. was born in 1603/4.2 He was the son of Sir Michael Balfour and Joanna Durham.1,2 He married, firstly, Ann Ayton, daughter of Sir John Ayton, before 1644.2 He married, secondly, Jean Durham, daughter of Sir James Durham, in 1645.2 He married, thirdly, Margaret Arnot, daughter of Sir James Arnot, before 1653.2 He married, fourthly, Janet Auchinleck, daughter of Sir William Auchinleck, in June 1654.2 He died on 14 February 1657.1 He was buried at Abdie Church, Abdie, Fife, Scotland.2
     Sir James Balfour, 1st Bt. held the office of Lord Lyon King of Arms between 20 April 1630 and 1654.1 He was invested as a Knight on 2 May 1633.2 He was created 1st Baronet Balfour, of Denmiln and Kinnaird, co. Fife [Nova Scotia] on 22 December 1633.1 He authored several antiquarian works.2

     Sir Michael Balfour was born circa 1580.2 He died on 14 February 1652.2
     Sir Michael Balfour held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Fifeshire [Scotland] from 1643 to 1644.1 He held the office of Comptroller of the Household [Scotland], to King Charles I.1 He lived at Denmiln, Fife, Scotland.1
