     Elizabeth Maria Lowther Gwatkin was born on 30 December 1816 at Meerut, India.1 She was the daughter of Maj.-Gen. Edward Gwatkin and Hetty Elizabeth Gascoigne.1 She married, secondly, William Winchester.1 She married, firstly, Robert Barlow Palmer Byng on 11 February 1839.1 She died on 5 November 1868 at age 51 at Rome, Italy.1
     Her married name became Winchester.1 From 11 February 1839, her married name became Byng.1
