     William Borthwick, 4th of Soltray and Johnstonburn was the son of William Borthwick, 3rd of Soltray and Johnstonburn and Katherine Crichton.1,2 A contract for the marriage of William Borthwick, 4th of Soltray and Johnstonburn and Barbara Lawson was signed on 22 December 1584. He died on 21 January 1640.1,2

     Major William Borthwick of Johnstonburn was the son of Colonel William Borthwick, 5th of Soltray and Johnstonburn and Janet Lies.2 He married Marion Moorhead on 28 April 1665 at Duddingston, Midlothian, Scotland.3 He died between 7 June 1687 and 28 June 1690.3
     Major William Borthwick of Johnstonburn gained the rank of Major in the service of the Scottish Army.1 He succeeded to the title of 10th Lord Borthwick [S., 1452] between 1673 and 1675, although he never claimed the title.3 He lived at Soltray, Scotland.1
