     George Crichton, 1st and last Earl of Caithness was born before 1427. He was the son of Stephen Crichton and unknown daughter Cairns.2,3 He married, secondly, Janet Borthwick, daughter of Sir William Borthwick, 2nd of Borthwick and Beatrice Sinclair.1 He married, firstly, unknown daughter Douglas, daughter of Sir William Douglas.2 He died in August 1454.2
     George Crichton, 1st and last Earl of Caithness held the office of Captain of Stirling Castle.2 He held the office of High Admiral [Scotland] in 1448.2 He was created 1st Earl of Caithness [Scotland] on 8 July 1452.1,2 He resigned as Earl of Caithness after July 1454.2
