     He gained the rank of Captain in the service of the Royal Navy.1

     He graduated with a Bachelor of Divinity (B.D.).1 He was Minister of the Free Church at Withington, Manchester, Lancashire, England.1
     He also had two other daughters, both of whom died unmarried.1
