Sir William Stanley was born in 1437 at Lytham, Lancashire, England.3 He was the son of Sir Thomas Stanley, 1st Lord Stanley and Joan Goushill.2 He married, firstly, Joan Beaumont, daughter of Sir John de Beaumont, 1st Viscount Beaumont and Elizabeth Phelip, in 1465.4 He married, secondly, Elizabeth Hopton, daughter of Thomas Hopton and Eleanor Lucy, before 7 December 1471.1 He died on 16 February 1494/95 at Tower Hill, The City, London, England, beheaded.1
