     Rev. Dr. William Boyd of Myrton was the son of Reverend Andrew Boyd and Margaret Boyd.1 He married Joanna Maitland, daughter of Reverend James Maitland, on 16 August 1762.1 He died on 17 June 1794.1
     Rev. Dr. William Boyd of Myrton graduated from University of Edinburgh, Edinburgh, Midlothian, Scotland, with a Doctor of Divinity (D.D.).1 He graduated from University of Edinburgh, Edinburgh, Midlothian, Scotland, with a Master of Arts (M.A.).1 He graduated from University of Glasgow, Glasgow, Lanarkshire, Scotland, with a Master of Arts (M.A.).1 He was the Minister at Penninghame, Wigtownshire, Scotland.1 In 1772 he purchased the lands and barony of Myrton (Mertonhall), Wigtownshire from Charles Gordon, WS.1
