     John Blades Currey was born in 1829.2 He was the son of Major Robert Currey and Charlotte Lipscomb.2 He married Mary Margaret Christian, daughter of Ewan Christian and Alletta Hendrina Schultz.1 He died in 1904.2
     John Blades Currey was educated at Merchant Taylors' School, Crosby, Lancashire, England.2 He was educated at Brasenose College, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, England.2 He emigrated to South Africa arriving on 1850.2 He was a wine producer at Klein Constantia, South Africa.2 He was manager of SA Exploration Company (later De Beers).2 He was a personal friend of Cecil Rhodes, and a pallbearer at his funeral.2 He was Secretary to the Government of Griqualand West.3
