     Charles Smyth was born in April 1752.1 He was the son of Rev. Sir William Smyth, 6th Bt. and Abigail Wood.1 He married Philadelphia Vandeput, daughter of Sir George Vandeput, 2nd Bt., on 14 December 1779.1 He died in May 1792 at age 40.1

     Joseph Smijth-Windham was born on 19 May 1792.1 He was the son of Sir William Smijth, 7th Bt. and Anne Windham.1 He married Katherine Trotter, daughter of John Trotter, on 10 August 1824.1 He died on 3 February 1857 at age 64.1
     Joseph Smijth-Windham was baptised with the name of Joseph Smijth.1 He was educated at Eton College, Eton, Berkshire, England.1 He gained the rank of Captain in the service of the 17th Lancers.1 He fought in the Peninsular Wars.1 He gained the rank of Captain in the service of the 10th Hussars.1 On 22 May 1823 his name was legally changed to Joseph Smijth-Windham by Royal Licence.1 He held the office of Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.).1 He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.).1 He lived at Waghen Hall, Hull, Yorkshire, England.1
