John Scott, 2nd Earl of Eldon was born on 10 December 1805.2 He was the son of Hon. John Scott and Henrietta Elizabeth White-Ridley.2 He married Hon. Louisa Duncombe, daughter of Charles Duncombe, 1st Baron Feversham of Duncombe Park and Lady Charlotte Legge, on 1 October 1831.2 He died on 18 September 1854 at age 48.2
John Scott, 2nd Earl of Eldon was educated at Winchester College, Winchester, Hampshire, England.2 He was educated at New College, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, England.2 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) (Tory) for Truro between 1829 and 1832.2 He was awarded the honorary degree of Doctor of Civil Law (D.C.L.) by New College, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, England, in 1834.2 He succeeded to the title of 2nd Earl of Eldon, co. Durham [U.K., 1821] on 13 January 1838.2 He succeeded to the title of 2nd Baron Eldon, of Eldon, co. Durham [G.B., 1799] on 13 January 1838.2 He succeeded to the title of 2nd Viscount Encombe, of Encombe, co. Dorset [U.K., 1821] on 13 January 1838.2 In 1853 he was adjudged insane.2
