     He granted the church of Tranent to the monks of Holyrood.1 Between 1127 and 1150 He was probably the nobleman Thor Sweynsson (possibly of Northumbrian origin) who witnessed charters of King David I, and was overlord of the great mountainous district of Crawford in Clydesdale.1

     Sweyn Thorsson is the son of Thor Sweynsson.2
     He was feudal overlord of the district of Crawford, which was held of him by his powerful vassal William de Lindsay.1 In 1188/89 he settled in Perthshire, when he granted lands in Gowrie to the monks of Scone.1

     Sir Walter of Ruthven was the son of Alan Sweynsson and Cecily de Maule.2 He married Cecily of Strathearn, daughter of Gilbert, Earl of Strathearn.1 He died after 1245.1
     In 1234 took the surname RUTHVEN soon after.1 In 1262 renounced right to Foulis and dsp 1266x1279).1
