     Walter Evelyn Pepys was born on 12 April 1885.¹ He was the son of Hon. Walter Courtenay Pepys and Amy Harriet Thompson.² He married Violet Maude Ramsey, daughter of Thomas Carr Ramsey, on 24 September 1932.¹ He died on 15 November 1966 at age 81, without issue.¹
     Walter Evelyn Pepys was educated at Malvern College, Malvern, Worcestershire, England.¹ He graduated from Brasenose College, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, England, in 1907 with a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.).¹ He was with the Malayan Civil Service between 1908 and 1940.¹ He graduated from Brasenose College, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, England, in 1910 with a Master of Arts (M.A.).¹ He was invested as a Companion, Order of St. Michael and St. George (C.M.G.) in 1938.¹ He was Liaison Officer to Sarawak and North Borneo between 1940 and 1942.¹ In 1942 he became a POW at the surrender of Singapore.¹
