Valentine Lawless, 4th Baron Cloncurry was born on 2 November 1840 at Ireland.1,2 He was the son of Edward Lawless, 3rd Baron Cloncurry and Elizabeth Kirwan.1 He married Hon. Laura Sophia Priscilla Winn, daughter of Rowland Winn, 1st Baron Saint Oswald of Nostell and Harriet Maria Amelia Dumaresq, on 23 January 1883.3 He died on 12 February 1928 at age 87 at Lyons Castle, County Kildare, Ireland.1,4
He was educated at Eton College, Windsor, Berkshire, England.2 He graduated from Balliol College, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, England, in 1861 with a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.).2 He held the office of Sheriff of County Kildare in 1867.2 He succeeded to the title of 4th Baronet Lawless, of Abington, co. Limerick [I., 1776] on 4 April 1869.1 He succeeded to the title of 3rd Baron Cloncurry, of Cloncurry, co. Kildare [U.K., 1831] on 4 April 1869.1 He succeeded to the title of 4th Baron Cloncurry, of Cloncurry, co. Kildare [I., 1789] on 4 April 1869.1

Hon. Laura Sophia Priscilla Winn was the daughter of Rowland Winn, 1st Baron Saint Oswald of Nostell and Harriet Maria Amelia Dumaresq.3,2 She married Valentine Lawless, 4th Baron Cloncurry, son of Edward Lawless, 3rd Baron Cloncurry and Elizabeth Kirwan, on 23 January 1883.4 She died on 29 October 1891 at 11 Grosvenor Gardens, London, England.2

He was Member of Parliament (M.P.) (C) N –85, a Lord Treasury 1874–80 Lincs 1868.4 He was Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.).4 He was in the West Riding of County York (UK).4 He was also known as Rowland Winn.4 He gained the title of 1st Baron Saint Oswald of Nostell. He was also known as Rowland Williamson, 1st Baron Saint Oswald of Nostell.5 On 6 July 1885 so created.4
