Cornelius O'Callaghan, 1st Viscount Lismore was born on 2 October 1775.1 He was the son of Cornelius O'Callaghan, 1st Baron Lismore of Shanbally and Frances Ponsonby.1 He married Lady Eleanor Butler, daughter of John Butler, 17th Earl of Ormonde and Lady Frances Susan Elizabeth Wandesford, on 11 August 1808.1 He and Lady Eleanor Butler were divorced in 1826.1 He died on 30 May 1857 at age 81.1
Cornelius O'Callaghan, 1st Viscount Lismore succeeded to the title of 2nd Baron Lismore of Shanbally, co. Tipperary [I., 1785] on 12 July 1797.1 He was created 1st Viscount Lismore, of Shanbally, co. Tipperary [Ireland] on 30 May 1806.1 He was invested as a Privy Counsellor (P.C.) [Ireland] in 1835.1 He was created 1st Baron Lismore of Shanbally Castle, co. Tipperary [U.K.] on 6 July 1838.1 He held the office of Lord-Lieutenant of County Tipperary between 1851 and 1857.1
