     Captain Alfred Matthews was born on 25 January 1792.1 He was the son of John Matthews and Elizabeth Ellis.1 He married Emily Rosetta Bernard, daughter of Reverend J. Bernard.1 He died in 1873, without issue.1
     Captain Alfred Matthews gained the rank of Captain in the service of the Royal Navy.1
