Colonel Donald McCorquodale was born on 4 April 1902.1 He is the son of Harold McCorquodale and Grace Granville.1 He married Diana Margaret Tennant, daughter of F. W. Tennant, on 30 October 1928.1
Colonel Donald McCorquodale was educated at Harrow School, Harrow on the Hill, London, England.1 He was educated at Royal Military College, Sandhurst, Berkshire, England.1 He fought in the Second World War, where he was mentioned in despatches.1 He was commanding officer of the King's Draggon Guards between 1940 and 1942.1 He was invested as a Officer, Order of the British Empire (O.B.E.) in 1942.1 He gained the rank of Colonel in 1942.1
