York [G.B., 1778] on 9 October 1921.1 He fought in the Second World War, where he was mentioned in despatches twice.1 He gained the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel in the service of the Royal Artillery (Territorial Army).1 He was commander of the Hertfordshire Yeomanry between 1939 and 1941.1 He held the office of Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.) of Hertfordshire in 1942.1 He gained the rank of Colonel between 1952 and 1956 in the service of the Arab Legion in Jordan.1 He was decorated with the Order of Istiqlal of Jordan (2nd Class) in 1957.1 He was invested as a Officer, Most Venerable Order of the Hospital of St John of Jerusalem (O.St.J.) in 1957.1
