     John Hamilton was born on 20 February 1827.1 He was the son of Colonel James Hamilton and Marion Eliz Anderson.1 He married Margaret Grierson, daughter of Philip Grierson and Margaret Smith, on 20 August 1848 at Keir, Dumfries-shire, Scotland.2 He died on 6 May 1852 at age 25.1 He was buried at Dean Cemetery, Edinburgh, Midlothian, Scotland.2

     Sir Philip James Hamilton-Grierson was born on 9 March 1851 at Burntisland, Fife, Scotland.3,1 He was the son of John Hamilton and Margaret Grierson.1 He married Lilias Kirkpatrick, daughter of James Kirkpatrick, on 27 April 1881.3,1 He died on 25 April 1927 at age 76 at Kemnay, Aberdeenshire, Scotland.1,3 He was buried at Dean Cemetery, Edinburgh, Midlothian, Scotland.1
     Sir Philip James Hamilton-Grierson was baptised with the name of Philip James Hamilton.3 He was educated at Cheltenham College, Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, England.3 He was educated in 1876 at Merton College, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, England, Bachelor of Arts (B.A.).3 On circa 1879 his name was legally changed to Philip James Hamilton-Grierson.3 He was admitted to Scot's Bar in 1880 entitled to practice as a Advocate.3 He was Solicitor to the Board of Inland Revenue in Scotland between 1892 and 1919.3 He wrote the book The Silent Trade: A Contribution to the Early History of Human Intercourse.3 He was invested as a Knight in 1910.3 He was awarded the honorary degree of Doctor of Law (LL.D.) by University of Edinburgh, Edinburgh, Midlothian, Scotland, in 1920.3 He had one other daughter.3

     2nd Lt. James Gilbert Hamilton-Grierson was born on 1 May 1887.1 He was the son of Sir Philip James Hamilton-Grierson and Lilias Kirkpatrick.1 He died on 12 July 1915 at age 28 at Dardenelles, Turkey, killed in action.1 His will (dated 18 May 1915) was probated on 6 October 1915, at £337.1
     2nd Lt.
