     Major Thomas Lionel Ashburner Clapton was the son of Lt.-Cdr. Thomas Clapton.2 He married Grizel Rosemary Cochrane, daughter of Rear-Admiral Archibald Cochrane and Maye Amélie Lucile Brooke, in 1941.1 He died on 12 July 1944 at Normandy, France, killed in action.3
     Major Thomas Lionel Ashburner Clapton gained the rank of Major in the service of the Durham Light Infantry.3 He fought in the Second World War.1
