     James Lawrence Cotter was born on 24 December 1838.1 He was the son of Colonel George Sackville Cotter and Agnes Kilgour.2 He married Frances Ironside, daughter of Captain unknown Ironside, in 1868.1 He died on 6 August 1889 at age 50.1
     James Lawrence Cotter was Chief Factor of the Hudson's Bay Company.1
