Robert Shankland Mays-Smith and Brenda Mary Hilda Rickett.3,2 He married Jennifer Joan Makins, daughter of Captain Eustace Makins, on 22 June 1963.2 He married Lady Elizabeth Maria Guinness, daughter of Major Arthur Onslow Edward Guinness, Viscount Elveden and Lady Elizabeth Cecilia Hare, on 7 February 1992.3 He died on 25 April 2014 at age 83.4
     He lived at Chaddleworth, Berkshire, EnglandG.1 He was a banker.3 Robert Martin Mays-Smith usually went by his middle name of Martin.1

     General Sir William Gurdon Stirling was born on 25 May 1907 at Chelsea, London, England.2,3 He was the son of Major Charles Stirling and Hon. Amy Harriott Gurdon.2 He married Frances Marguerite Wedderburn Wedderburn-Wilson, daughter of John Wedderburn-Wilson and Elisabeth Mary Stephens, on 15 April 1941.2 He died in 1973 at Bury St. Edmunds, Suffolk, England.3
     He was educated at Wellington College, Wellington, Berkshire, England.2 He was educated at Royal Military Academy, Woolwich, London, England.2 He fought in the Second World War, in North Africa and North-West Europe, and was mentioned in dispatches.2 He was awarded the Distinguished Service Order (D.S.O.) in 1945.2 He was appointed Commander, Order of the British Empire (C.B.E.) in 1951.2 He was recognised by Lord Lyon King of Arms, and matriculated his arms at the Lyons Court on 8 April 1952.2 He held the office of Military Secretary of State for War between 1961 and 1963.4 He was Colonel Commandant of the Royal Artillery in 1962.2 He was appointed Knight Grand Cross, Order of the Bath (G.C.B.) in 1964.2 He was Aide-de-Camp to HM Queen Elizabeth II between 1964 and 1966.2 He was Commander-in-Chief of the British Army of the Rhine.4 He retired from the military in 1966, with the rank of General, late of the Royal Artillery.2 He was Gentleman Usher to the Sword of State in 1967.2 He was awarded the Officer, Legion of Merit U.S.2
