Sir Thomas Moncreiffe of that Ilk, 1st Bt. was born in 1626.1 He was the son of Thomas Moncreiffe and Elspeth Baikie.2 He married, firstly, Bethia Hamilton, daughter of Alexander Hamilton of Hill.1 He married, secondly, Mary Hope, daughter of Sir Thomas Hope of Kerse.3 He died on 15 January 1715, without issue.1
Sir Thomas Moncreiffe of that Ilk, 1st Bt. was admitted to Royal Company of Archers entitled to practice as a an original member.1 He held the office of Clerk of the Exchequer and Treasurer [Scotland].1 In 1674 Bthe aronies of Moncreiffe and Easter Moncreiffe were united in his favour.1 He was created 1st Baronet Moncreiffe [Nova Scotia] on 30 November 1685, with a special remainder to heirs male whatsoever.1
