Johnstone Thomas Stoney was born on 28 July 1849.2 He was the son of James Johnstone Stoney and Elizabeth Lucia Minchin.2 He married, firstly, Rebecca Minchin, daughter of Edward Corker Minchin and Sarah Anne Hutchinson, on 5 December 1872.2 He married, secondly, Arabella Louisa Lipyeatt, daughter of Percy William Cornwallis Lipyeatt, on 12 March 1878.2 He died on 9 November 1925 at age 76.2
