Brigadier William Holcroft Blood was born on 29 May 1887.1 He was the son of John Blood and Jane Studdert.1 He married, firstly, Ierne Cecilia Hawkins, daughter of Captain Herbert Reginald Montgomery Hawkins and Hilda Nugent Bankes, on 12 October 1920.1 He and Ierne Cecilia Hawkins were divorced in 1935.1 He married, secondly, Helen Gertrude Gordon Wheeler, daughter of Walter Livingstone Wheeler, on 16 January 1936.2
Brigadier William Holcroft Blood was educated at Clifton College, Bristol, Gloucestershire, England.1 He was educated at Royal Military College, Sandhurst, Berkshire, England.1 He fought in the First World War, during which he was mentioned in despatches.1 He fought in the Afghan War in 1919, serving as the Deputy-Assistant Quartermaster General, 1st Peshawar Division.1 He was the Brigade Major of the 2nd Cavalry Brigade India in 1920.1 He was invested as a Member, Royal Victorian Order (M.V.O.) in 1922.1 He was a Staff Officer to the Military Advisor-in-Chief Indian States Forces between 1925 and 1928.1 He gained the rank of Brevet Lieutenant-Colonel in 1931.1 He was the Commandant of the Queen Victoria's Own Corps of Guides Calvary between 1932 and 1936 when he retired from the military.1 He was the Secretary of the National Horse Breeding and Show Society of India between 1936 and 1942.1 He was recommissioned in 1940.1 He was the Chief Administrative Officer, General Headquarters, India between 1942 and 1944.1 He was the Deputy Secretary of Defence of the Government of India between 1944 and 1945.1 He retired from the military in 1945, with the rank of Brigadier.1 As of 1976, Brigadier William Holcroft Blood lived at Pear Tree Cottage, Burwash, Sussex, England.1
