     Hon. Ralph Shirley was born on 30 December 1865.1 He was the son of Reverend Walter Waddington Shirley and Philippa Frances Emilia Knight.2 He married, firstly, Florence Beatrice Wright, daughter of H. Wright, on 28 July 1903.1 He married, secondly, Lilian Octavia Fortescue Ingram, daughter of Matthew Lisle Ingram, on 24 July 1935.1 He died on 29 December 1946 at age 80, without issue.1
     Hon. Ralph Shirley graduated from New College, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, England, with a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.).1 In 1913 he was granted the rank of an earl's younger son.1
