     Major Hugh Charles Fortescue was born on 7 July 1860.1 He was the son of Francis Fortescue and Katherine Frederica Ellice.2 He married Minnie Anne Duncan, daughter of Peter Duncan, in 1892.1 He died on 12 October 1937 at age 77.1
     Major Hugh Charles Fortescue gained the rank of Temporary Major in 1916.1 He gained the rank of Major and Honorary Lieutenant-Colonel in the service of the 4th Battalion, Oxford Light Infantry.1

     Minnie Anne Duncan was the daughter of Peter Duncan.2 She married Major Hugh Charles Fortescue, son of Francis Fortescue and Katherine Frederica Ellice, in 1892.1 She died in 1908, without issue.1
