Sir Steuart Robert Pringle of Stichill, 10th Bt. was born on 21 July 1928.1 He is the son of Sir Norman Hamilton Pringle of Stichill, 9th Bt. and Winifred Olive Curran.2 He married Jacqueline Marie Gladwell, daughter of Wilfrid Hubert Gladwell, on 5 September 1953.1
He was educated at Sherborne School, Sherborne, Dorset, England.1 He was commissioned in 1946 with the rank of 2nd Lieutenant, in the service of the Royal Marines.1 He was Adjutant of the Commando School between 1952 and 1954.3 He was Chief Instructor of the Signal Training Wingi between 1959 and 1961.3 He was Brigade Signal Officer of the 3 Commando Brigade between 1961 and 1963.3 He succeeded to the title of 10th Baronet Pringle, of Stichill [N.S., 1683] on 8 February 1961.4 He was Commanding Officer of the 45 Commando Group between 1971 and 1974.3 He was Commanding Officer of the HQ Commando Forces between 1974 and 1976.3 He gained the rank of Major-General in 1978 in the service of the Commando Forces.3 He was Chief of Staff to Commandant-General between 1979 and 1981.3 He was Commandant-General between 1981 and 1984.3 He was awarded the honorary degree of Doctor of Science (D.Sc.) by City University, London, England, in 1982.1 He wrote the book Peace and the Bomb, published 1982, contributor.1 He was invested as a Knight Commander, Order of the Bath (K.C.B.) in 1982.1 He wrote the book The Future of British Sea Power, published 1984.3 He was Colonel Commandant between 1989 and 1990.3 He was awarded the honorary degree of Doctor of Law (LL.D.) by Exeter University, Exeter, Devon, England, in 1994.1 He lived in 2003 at 76 South Croxted Road, Dulwich, London, England.1
