James Haldane, 2nd of Airthrey was the son of Lt.-Col. James Haldane and Margaret Pye.2 He married Katherine Duncan, daughter of Alexander Duncan of Lundie and Helen Haldane, on 15 December 1762.1 He died on 30 June 1768.1

Robert Haldane, 3rd of Airthrey was the son of James Haldane, 2nd of Airthrey and Katherine Duncan.2 He married Catherine Cochrane Oswald, daughter of George Oswald of Scotstown, on 24 April 1785.1 He died on 12 December 1842.1
Robert Haldane, 3rd of Airthrey gained the rank of officer between 1780 and 1783 in the service of the Royal Navy, and served under Sir John Jervis, afterwards Lord St Vincent, at the relief of Gibraltar.1 In 1798 he sold Airthrey to General Sir Robert Abercromby.1 He conducted a preaching tour of Scotland in company with his brother.3 In 1809 he bought Auchengray, Lanarkshire.1

James Alexander Haldane was born on 14 July 1768.1 He was the son of James Haldane, 2nd of Airthrey and Katherine Duncan.2 He married, firstly, Mary Joass, daughter of Major Alexander Joass of Colleonard, on 18 September 1793.1 He married Margaret Rutherford, daughter of Professor Daniel Rutherford, on 23 April 1822.3 He died on 8 February 1851 at age 82.3
