     James Cecil Arthur of Carlung, 2nd Baron Glenarthur was born on 2 June 1883.1 He was the son of Matthew Arthur of Carlung, 1st Baron Glenarthur and Janet Stevenson Bennett McGrigor.1,2 He married Evelyn March Phillipps, daughter of Henry March Phillipps and Charlotte Jones, on 5 February 1907.3 He died on 11 December 1942 at age 59.1
     He gained the rank of Lieutenant in the service of the 4th Battalion, Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders.1 He gained the rank of Captain in the service of the Ayrshire Yeomanry.1 He succeeded to the title of 2nd Baron Glenarthur, of Carlung, co. Ayr [U.K., 1918] on 23 September 1928.1 He succeeded to the title of 2nd Baronet Arthur, of Carlung, co. Ayr [U.K., 1903] on 23 September 1928.1

     Matthew Arthur of Carlung, 1st Baron Glenarthur was born on 9 March 1852.1 He was the son of James Arthur of Carlung and Jane Glen.2 He married Janet Stevenson Bennett McGrigor, daughter of Alexander Bennett McGrigor of Cairnoch, on 8 July 1879.1 He died on 23 September 1928 at age 76.1
     He graduated from Glasgow University, Glasgow, Lanarkshire, Scotland, with a Doctor of Law (LL.D.).1 He was recognised by the Lord Lyon King of Arms, and matriculated his arms at the Lyons Office on 10 December 1902.1 He was created 1st Baronet Arthur, of Carlung, co. Ayr [U.K.] on 10 January 1903.1 He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for Ayrshire.1 He held the office of Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.) of Ayrshire.1 He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for Glasgow.1 He was admitted to Royal Company of Archers.1 He held the office of Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.) of Glasgow.1 He was created 1st Baron Glenarthur, of Carlung, co. Ayr [U.K.] on 27 June 1918.1
