     James Cecil Arthur of Carlung, 2nd Baron Glenarthur was born on 2 June 1883.¹ He was the son of Matthew Arthur of Carlung, 1st Baron Glenarthur and Janet Stevenson Bennett McGrigor.^1,2 He married Evelyn March Phillipps, daughter of Henry March Phillipps and Charlotte Jones, on 5 February 1907.³ He died on 11 December 1942 at age 59.¹
     He gained the rank of Lieutenant in the service of the 4th Battalion, Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders.¹ He gained the rank of Captain in the service of the Ayrshire Yeomanry.¹ He succeeded to the title of 2nd Baron Glenarthur, of Carlung, co. Ayr [U.K., 1918] on 23 September 1928.¹ He succeeded to the title of 2nd Baronet Arthur, of Carlung, co. Ayr [U.K., 1903] on 23 September 1928.¹

     Matthew Arthur of Carlung, 1st Baron Glenarthur was born on 9 March 1852.¹ He was the son of James Arthur of Carlung and Jane Glen.² He married Janet Stevenson Bennett McGrigor, daughter of Alexander Bennett McGrigor of Cairnoch, on 8 July 1879.¹ He died on 23 September 1928 at age 76.¹
     He graduated from Glasgow University, Glasgow, Lanarkshire, Scotland, with a Doctor of Law (LL.D.).¹ He was recognised by the Lord Lyon King of Arms, and matriculated his arms at the Lyons Office on 10 December 1902.¹ He was created 1st Baronet Arthur, of Carlung, co. Ayr [U.K.] on 10 January 1903.¹ He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for Ayrshire.¹ He held the office of Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.) of Ayrshire.¹ He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for Glasgow.¹ He was admitted to Royal Company of Archers.¹ He held the office of Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.) of Glasgow.¹ He was created 1st Baron Glenarthur, of Carlung, co. Ayr [U.K.] on 27 June 1918.¹
