     Sir John Makgill, 10th Bt. was born on 6 February 1836.3 He is the son of George Makgill and Harriet Strettell.2 He married Margaret Isabella Haldane, daughter of Robert Haldane and Jane Makgill, on 18 April 1866.1 He died on 14 November 1906 at age 70.3
     Sir John Makgill, 10th Bt. gained the rank of Captain in the service of the Royal Engineers.3 He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.).3 He succeeded to the title of 10th Lord Makgill of Cousland [S., 1651] on 21 September 1878, de jure.4 He succeeded to the title of 10th Baronet Makgill [N.S., 1627] on 21 September 1878, de jure.1 He succeeded to the title of 10th Viscount of Oxfuird [S., 1651] on 21 September 1878, de jure.5 He succeeded to Kemback and Fingask but sold them.3
