     James Alexander Haldane was born on 11 December 1844.1 He was the son of Robert Haldane and Jane Makgill.2 He married Sarah Jane Reid on 22 June 1868.1 He died on 23 August 1901 at age 56.1
     James Alexander Haldane held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.).1 He was recognised by the Lord Lyon King of Arms, and matriculated his arms at the Lyons Office in 1879.1 He was a practising Writer to the Signet (W.S.).1

     Robert John Alwyn Haldane was born on 12 May 1871.1 He was the son of James Alexander Haldane and Sarah Jane Reid.2 He died on 6 September 1898 at age 27 at Cyprus, killed on duty during a revolt.1
     Robert John Alwyn Haldane was educated at Loretto School, Edinburgh, Midlothian, Scotland.1 He was educated at Royal Military College, Sandhurst, Berkshire, England.1 He gained the rank of Lieutenant in the service of the Highland Light Infantry.1
