Sir Geoffry Alexander Stafford Northcote was born on 9 February 1881.1 He was the son of Rev. Hon. Arthur Francis Northcote and Mary Arabella Toller.2 He married Edith Juliet Mary Adams, daughter of Reverend James Williams Adams, V.C. and Alice Mary Willshire, on 27 October 1910.1 He died on 10 July 1948 at age 67.1
Sir Geoffry Alexander Stafford Northcote graduated from Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, England, in 1904 with a Master of Arts (M.A.).1 He was with the Kenya Civil Service between 1904 and 1927.1 He was Cheif Secretary [Northern Rhodesia] between 1927 and 1930.1 He held the office of Colonial Secretary [Gold Coast] between 1930 and 1934.1 He held the office of Governor and Commander-in-Chief of British Guiana from 24 July 1934 to 1937.1 He was invested as a Knight Commander, Order of St. Michael and St. George (K.C.M.G.) in 1935.1 He held the office of Governor and Commander-in-Chief of Hong Kong between 1937 and 1941.1 He gained the rank of Principal Information Officer between 1942 and 1947 in the service of the East African Command.1 He was invested as a Knight, Most Venerable Order of the Hospital of St. John of Jerusalem (K.St.J.).1 He held the office of Speaker of the East African Legislative Assembly in April 1948.1
