     He was educated at Clayesmore School, Iwerne Minster, Dorset, England.¹ He gained the rank of Cadet in 1946 in the service of the Indian Army.¹ He was educated at Royal Military Academy, Sandhurst, Berkshire, England, Clayesmore and RMA Sandhurst.¹ He gained the rank of 2nd Lieutenant in 1949 in the service of the Royal Artillery.¹ He retired from the military in 1960, with the rank of Temporary Major.³ He was with the Diplomatic Service between 1962 and 1989.³ He was invested as a Lieutenant, Royal Victorian Order (L.V.O.) in 1979.¹ He was decorated with the award of the Commander Order of St. Olav of Norway in 1981.³ He lived in 2003 at Tudor House, Broadwindsor, Dorset, England.¹
