     William Dewar was born on 29 April 1707.3 He was the son of James Dewar, 1st of Vogrie and Jean Halyburton.2 He married, firstly, Elizabeth Henderson, daughter of Jame Henderson.3 He married, secondly, April Anne Agnes Erskine, daughter of Sir David Erskine, on 24 April 1743.1
     William Dewar was a merchant.3 He lived at Laverocklaw, Berwickshire, Scotland.3
