Vice-Admiral Sir Arthur Ninian Dowding was born on 4 January 1886.1 He was the son of Arthur John Caswall Dowding and Maud Caroline Tremenheere.2 He married Kathleen Drummond, daughter of Captain J. H. Drummond, on 1 May 1915.1 He died on 26 November 1966 at age 80.1
Vice-Admiral Sir Arthur Ninian Dowding was educated at Clifton College, Clifton, Bristol, Gloucestershire, England.1 He gained the rank of Captain in 1926 in the service of the Royal Navy.1 He held the office of Aide-de-Camp to HM King George VI in 1936.1 He was invested as a Companion, Order of the Bath (C.B.) in 1938.1 He was Admiral Superintendant of the Devonport Dockyard between 1938 and 1945.1 He gained the rank of Vice-Admiral in 1940.1 He was decorated with the award of Officer, Legion of Merit (U.S.).1 He was invested as a Knight Commander, Order of the British Empire (K.B.E.) in 1945.1

Derek Hugh Tremenheere Dowding, 2nd Baron Dowding was born on 9 January 1919.1 He was the son of Air Chief Marshal Hugh Caswall Tremenheere Dowding, 1st Baron Dowding and Clarice Maud Williams.2 He married, firstly, Joan Myrtle Stuart, daughter of Donald James Stuart, on 17 February 1940.1 He and Joan Myrtle Stuart were divorced in 1946.1 He married, secondly, Alison Margaret Bannerman, daughter of James Bannerman, on 7 May 1947.3 He and Alison Margaret Bannerman were divorced in 1960.3 He married, thirdly, Odette L. M. S. Houles, daughter of Louis Joseph Houles, on 17 December 1961.3 He died in 1992.1
