     Alan D'Ardis Erskine-Murray, 14th Lord Elibank was born on 31 December 1923.1 He is the son of Robert Alan Erskine-Murray and Eileen Mary MacManus.2 He married Valerie Sylvia Dennis, daughter of Herbert William Dennis, on 1 September 1962.1
     He was educated at Bedford School, Bedford, Bedfordshire, England.1 He was with the Royal Engineers between 1942 and 1947.1 He graduated from Peterhouse College, Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, England, in 1949 with a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.).1 He was admitted to Middle Temple in 1949 entitled to practice as a barrister.1 He graduated from Peterhouse College, Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, England, in 1953 with a Master of Arts (M.A.).1 He was with Shell International Petroleum between 1955 and 1980.1 He succeeded to the title of 14th Baronet Murray, of Etrick Forest, co. Selkirk [N.S., 1628] on 2 June 1973.2 He succeeded to the title of 14th Lord Elibank, of Etrick Forest, co. Selkirk [S., 1643] on 2 June 1973.2 He was a personnel consultant with Deminex UK Oil and Gas
between 1981 and 1986.1
