     William Hay, 6th Lord Hay of Yester was born circa 1561.1 He was the son of William Hay, 5th Lord Hay of Yester and Margaret Kerr.1 He married Mary Maxwell, daughter of Sir John Maxwell and Agnes Herries, Lady Herries of Terregles.1 He died circa 29 May 1591.1
     He succeeded as the 6th Lord Hay of Yester [S., 1488] in August 1586.1 He was appointed Privy Counsellor (P.C.) [Scotland] in 1589.1 On 21 February 1590/91 he received a regrant of his lands and honours with limitation to his heirs male.1

     John Hay, 4th Lord Hay of Yester was born circa 1510.1 He was the son of John Hay, 3rd Lord Hay of Yester and Elizabeth Douglas.1 He married Margaret Livingston, daughter of William Livingston, 4th Lord Livingston, before 18 October 1533.1 He died before 30 January 1555/56.1
     He succeeded as the 4th Lord Hay of Yester [S., 1488] circa July 1543.1 He was appointed Privy Counsellor (P.C.) before 25 June 1545.1 He fought in the Battle of Pinkie on 10 September 1547, where he was captured by the English.1 He held the office of Provost of Peebles in 1555.1
