     Sir James Johnstone of Westerhall was the son of James Johnstone of Westerhall and Isabel Scott.2 He married Margaret Bannatyne, daughter of John Bannatyne of Corehouse.1 He died on 18 November 1699.1
     He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Dumfries Sheriffdom [Scotland] between 1689 and 1699.1
