Admiral Sir Charles Frederick Hotham was born on 20 March 1843.1 He was the son of John Hotham and Maria Elizabeth Thompson.1 He married Margaret Home, daughter of David Milne Home of Wedderburn, on 29 February 1872.1 He died on 22 March 1925 at age 82.1
He was invested as a Knight Grand Cross, Order of the Bath (G.C.B.).1 He was invested as a Knight Grand Cross, Royal Victorian Order (G.C.V.O.).1 He was Junior Lord of the Admiralty between 1888 and 1889.1 He was Commander-in-Chief of the Pacific station in 1890.1 He was Commander-in-Chief of the Sheerness between 1897 and 1899.1 He was Commander-in-Chief of the Portsmouth between 1900 and 1903.1 He was Commander-in-Chief of the New Zealand and Egypt.1 He gained the rank of Admiral of the Fleet in the service of the Royal Navy.1
