     Henry Vane, 1st Earl of Darlington was born circa 1705.1 He was the son of Gilbert Vane, 2nd Baron Barnard of Barnard's Castle and Mary Randyll.2 He married Lady Grace Fitzroy, daughter of Charles Fitzroy, 2nd Duke of Cleveland and Anne Pulteney, on 2 September 1725.3 He died on 6 March 1758.3
     He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) (Whig) for Launceston from 1726 to 1727.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) (Whig) for St. Mawes between 1727 and 1741.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) (Whig) for Ripon between 1741 and 1747.1 He held the office of Vice Treasurer and Paymaster General [Ireland] between 1742 and 1744.1 He was appointed Privy Counsellor (P.C.) [Ireland] on 18 September 1742.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) (Whig) for County Durham between 1747 and 1753.1 He held the office of a Lord of the Treasury between 1749 and 1755.1 He held the office of Lord-Lieutenant of County Durham between 1753 and 1758.4 He succeeded as the 3rd Baron Barnard of Barnard's Castle, in the Bishopric of Durham [E., 1698] on 27 April 1753.1 He was created 1st Viscount Barnard of Barnard's Castle [Great Britain] on 3 April 1754.1 He was created 1st Earl of Darlington, co. Durham [Great Britain] on 3 April 1754.1 He held the office of Joint Paymaster of the Forces between 1755 and 1756.1
     Walpole wrote that he "whenever he was drunk told all he knew, and when he was sober, more than he knew."3

     Robert Vane Hay-Drummond was born on 16 September 1936.1 He was the son of Captain George Vane Hay-Drummond and Lady Betty Mary Seton Montgomerie.1 He married Auriol Fyler Pares, daughter of Commander George Martin Pares and Daphne Louise Vera Fyler, on 25 July 1959.1 He died on 23 November 1996 at age 60.1
     He was educated at Eton College, Windsor, Berkshire, EnglandG.1 He was admitted to the Royal Company of Archers.1
