     Gertrude Mary Stapleton-Bretherton was born in 1891. She was the daughter of Frederick Annesley Stapleton-Bretherton and Hon. Isabella Mary Petre.1 She married Vice-Admiral Kenneth Gilbert Balmain Dewar, son of James Dewar and Jane Flora Wotherspoon, on 28 July 1914.2
     From 28 July 1914, her married name became Dewar.

     Vice-Admiral Kenneth Gilbert Balmain Dewar was born on 21 September 1879.1 He was the son of James Dewar and Jane Flora Wotherspoon.2 He married Gertrude Mary Stapleton-Bretherton, daughter of Frederick Annesley Stapleton-Bretherton and Hon. Isabella Mary Petre, on 28 July 1914.1 He died on 8 September 1964 at age 84.1
     He was educated at H.M.S. Britannia, EnglandG.1 He gained the rank of Midshipman in 1895 in the Royal Navy.1 He gained the rank of Lieutenant in 1900.1 He gained the rank of Commander in 1911.1 He was Assistant Director of Naval Plans Division, Naval Staff in 1917.1 He gained the rank of Captain in 1918.1 He was appointed Commander, Order of the British Empire (C.B.E.) in 1919.1 He was Deputy Directorr of Naval Intelligence Division between 1925 and 1927.1 He was Officer-in-Charge of the H.M.S. Royal Oak.1 He was Officer-in-Charge of the H.M.S. Tiger between 1928 and 1929.1 He gained the rank of Rear-Admiral in 1929.1 He held the office of Aide-de-Camp to HM King George V.1 He gained the rank of Vice-Admiral in 1934.1 He was awarded the Gold Medal RUSI.1 He wrote the book The Navy from Within, published 1939 (ASIN: B003AJTP3Q.)1

He died on 30 December 2022 at age 78.4
