     He was educated at Eton College, Windsor, Berkshire, England.1 He fought in the First World War.1 He gained the rank of Major in the service of the Royal Engineers.1 He was invested as a Member, Order of the British Empire (M.B.E.) in 1919.1 He was Gold Stick-in-Waiting at the Coronation in 1937.1 He was Assistant Chief Constable of the War Department Constabulary between 1940 and 1942.1 He was a King's Messenger between 1942 and 1945.1
