Sir Eustace de Maxwell of Carlaverock1

     Sir Eustace de Maxwell of Carlaverock was the son of Sir John de Maxwell of Carlaverock.1 He died on 3 March 1342.1
     Before 1312 he occupied Carlaverock on behalf of King Edward II.1 Circa 1312 he switched sides to King Robert I of the Scots.1 He switched back, supporting the claim of Edward Balliol to the Scottish throne.1 In 1338 he then rose against the English.1 In 1339 he was pardoned by King Edwrd III.1

     Herbert de Maxwell is the son of Sir John de Maxwell.1
     In September 1347 he swore fealty to King Edward III, for which he held Carlaverock, and was outlawed by the Scots.1

Elizabeth Beaumont1

     Elizabeth Beaumont is the daughter of Sir Francis Beaumont.1 She married Robert Maxwell, 1st Earl of Nithsdale, son of John Maxwell, 7th Lord Maxwell and Lady Elizabeth Douglas, on 28 October 1619.1
     From 28 October 1619, her married name became Maxwell.1 After her marriage, Elizabeth Beaumont was styled as Countess of Nithsdale on 29 August 1620.

Robert Maxwell, 2nd Earl of Nithsdale1

     Robert Maxwell, 2nd Earl of Nithsdale was born on 1 September 1620.1 He was the son of Robert Maxwell, 1st Earl of Nithsdale and Elizabeth Beaumont.1 He died on 5 October 1667 at age 47, unmarried.1
     A Royalist during the Civil War.1 He succeeded as the 9th Lord Maxwell [S., 1445] in May 1646.1 He succeeded as the 2nd Earl of Nithsdale [S., 1620] in May 1646.1 He succeeded as the 2nd Lord Maxwell, Eskdale and Carleill [S., 1620] in May 1646.1
