     Donough MacCarty, 1st Earl of Clancarty was born in 1594.3 He was the son of Charles MacCarty, 1st Viscount Muskerry and Margaret O'Brien.2,3 He married Eleanor Butler, daughter of Thomas Butler, Viscount Thurles and Elizabeth Poyntz, before 1648.4 He died on 4 August 1665 at London, England.4
     Donough MacCarty, 1st Earl of Clancarty held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for County Cork from 1634 to 1635.3 He was created 1st Baronet MacCarty [Nova Scotia] circa 1638.3 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for County Cork from 1639 to 1640.3 He succeeded to the title of 2nd Viscount Muskerry [I., 1628] on 20 February 1640.3 From 1641 to 1642 he was in arms with the Roman Catholic Irish.3 In June 1651 at Dromagh, Ireland, he was severely defeated by Lord Broghill.3 He was created 1st Earl of Clancarty, co. Cork [Ireland] on 27 November 1658.4
